Hero’s Journey Review Parts 5-8

5) Crossing the Threshold

This is when the hero crosses the threshold and sets out on his/her journey as a novice, then when he gets to the threshold there will be a challenge they have to complete, and a “leap of faith” into the other world. An example is in hercules his training is his approach, the guardian is the minions, and the leap of faith is setting himself against hades.

6) The test, allies, and enemies, this is when the hero gets his allies and enemies through a test that he/she must beat. An example of this is in My Little Pony Friendship is magic, twilight sparkle gets her friends and enemies when she sets herself against Nightmare Moon.

7) Approach to the inmost cave. this is when the hero approaches the final destination. In my little pony friendship  is magic, the approach is when she approaches the castle in the middle of the never-free forest.

8) The Ordeal: this is the “death and rebirth” of the hero. An example of this is in my little pony friendship is magic nightmare moon reduces twilight to having no faith but after a little bit she is reborn and she understands the magic in friendship.

Hero’s Journey Parts 1-4 Review

The first four parts of the hero’s journey is:
1) The Ordinary world- this shows the hero in his natural element, before he sets out on his journey. An example of this is In My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, a young student Twilight Sparkle, is used to her normal world of isolation and study under Princess Celestia, then she travels to a new city and has to make friends with locals to defeat the evil pony Nightmare Moon.

2)Call To Adventure- This is when the hero is first asked to go on the adventure. An example of this is in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Princess Celestia is captured by Nightmare Moon in a jealous rage. Twilight Sparkle knows that she must go out into the wild to save her teacher, and all of Equestria.

3) The Refusal of the Call- this is the hero’s decline of the first call to adventure. An example of this is in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle at first does not want to go to Ponnyville even though it is Princess Celestia’s wish. Twilight Sparkle is more interested in her studies than traveling to a new place and meeting new people. Twilight doesn’t do this as fear, however, it is more out of simply not wanting to “waste her time”.

4) The mentor- this is the person who trains the hero to be able to accept the call. An example of this is in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Twilight sparkle’s mentors are in the forms of her 4 new friends. Each friend gives specific insight that leads Twilight to accepting her call. Apple Jack shows Twilight to be faithful, Pinkie Pie shows her to not take life so seriously, Rarity shows her to be generous and not conceded, and finally Fluttershy shows her to be kind to each pony and not judge a book by its cover.

 

Texting and Driving

Because of the personal choice texting while driving is, it would be hard to enforce any real laws. Obviously there would be laws saying that if you were caught texting while driving you would get a large fine and points taken off your drivers license. Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do, this is because teenagers and young adults don’t have the experience and brain processing that would make them aware of the chance of death. As a congressmen there isn’t many laws that would work. I would try to run more fear programs like they do with meth, but the laws that would need to be put into place would take away some freedom which would cause a stirrup.

Drunk driving, distracted driving, and testing while driving are one in the same. They all have the same dangers with very little benefit, if any. All of them put not only yourself but others in risk and all of them are factors of death hundreds of times a year. No one text is worth your life, same with a drink or a conversation.

Lastly i would put in a fear/information campaign. I would run fear ads just like anti-meth commercials. I would run groups and seminars to inform the general public about this risk, however this most likely wouldn’t work. It all boils down to the people who are stupid enough to not only put their lives at risk but everyone around them as well. The impact that one single text while driving has can be profound.

Stage 12 of the Hero’s Journey

This stage of the Hero’s Journey is the Elixar. This is the stage where the hero returns, the villain is punished and the hero is praised, and the hero determines if the elixir was worth the trouble.

In the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle and her friends return to the canterlot castle after defeating discord. They receive medals and praise from Princess Celestia herself. This is the elixar at the end for the ponies. This gives Twilight a better understanding of the importance of friendship and determination for she could not have done this alone.

In The Lion King, after defeating Scar, Simba takes his rightful place as king. After many years of hiding from his past Simba realizes that he cannot turn his back on his past, and that he must embrace what has happened.

In Eragon, when he returns from his adventure his normal life has been forever  changed. Eragon is now greeted with respect and praise. Eragon will never be just a normal farm boy again.

And finally, in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; The elements of Harmony Twilight finds out that her normal life is forever changed. After going through this big adventure she realizes the friends she made are forever. She also has discovered the magic in friendship…get it? friendship is magic…

The Heros Journey Stage 11- The Ressurection

This stage of the Hero’s Journey is when the hero finally sheds what he was and can only return to his old world.  This could be moving from ignorance to enlightenment, cruelty to love, or other stuff. The hero has changed and the hero must be aware of this change. The hero is called the plot of the story because they change as the story develops, also the story is based around them.

One example of this is in the episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; The Sonic Rainboom. When the episode starts Rainbow Dash is discouraged and not very faithful in her talents. As she trains and prepares for the event she is changing. And by the end of the episode Rainbow Dash becomes aware of the change in her attitude, from fearful to fearless.

Another example is in the episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; Dragonshy. When the six ponies start on their adventure to talk to the dragon, fluttershy is scared and doesn’t want to take charge. However as she climbs the mountain she becomes more courageous and when she sees the dragon picking on her friends she becomes aware of her new found courage.

The Hero’s Journey Stage 10 – The Road Back

Stage 10 of the hero’s journey is him returning home, this is his third threshold he must pass. The hero has gone through his adventure, faced his enemy, and claimed his reward, and now he must go back home. The hero’s home may be in peril, they may be famine, or cursed, and the hero has the cure. The hero may be related to either why he left or how he claimed his reward. The hero could be caused to return because the villain returns, or the elixar is stolen, or maybe the hero’s love interest is kidnaped. One example of this is when in Eragon the main character is fleeing back to his home, from the villian.  Another example of this is when in Transformers, the main character goes back home to protect his parents from the evil decepticons.
